Trends Taking Over TikTok scene and myriad museums helped it clinch first place in our list of Trendiest Cities, but its global reputation also played a major role in its ranking as the city other global city-dwellers would most want to move to. New Yorkers also rated their city high in categories such as nightlife, creativity, community spirit, and friendliness.

The second spot went to Cape Town, which scored high marks for its stunning combination of sea, mountains, and vineyards. It’s no wonder every single survey respondent considered it beautiful. The city ranked first in “relaxation,” thanks to its thriving yoga scene, and in the top five for breweries and wine bars.

Rounding out the top five was Boston, which has a vibrant arts and music scene. It was a leader in the ‘creative community’ category, and is also well known for its healthy living initiatives. In fact, the city has more parks per capita than any other in the United States. And while Boston has a higher cost of living than some of the other cities in this top 10, it’s still more affordable than New York.

Other American cities that made the top 10 include Chicago (fourth), Los Angeles (sixth), and Seattle (seventh). New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Austin rounded out the top 10. The city of Kalamazoo, Michigan, was a surprising entry at No. 11, but it boasts plenty of trendy amenities for its small population. White-collar telecommuters are flocking here to take advantage of the area’s cheap housing. For example, a three-bedroom single-family home near historic Madison Theatre and Saint Rose restaurants is listed for $157,000.
